If you’re writing or creating content, or if you want to be an effective blog writer, it’s not something that you can just jump into. You have to have a basic understanding of the type of writing you’ll be doing and who it’s targeted to so that you’ll be able to cater to the people who are reading what you have to say. When you create content, it’s like making a product or offering a service. People have to want it ” and you have to show them that they want it. Make it witty. Make it engaging. Depending on the subject, make it funny or a little bit sarcastic.
Big words will not get you anywhere. Making your blog easy to understand is a top priority. Using too many big words or a lot of tech speak can alienate you from your audience. Most people expect easy to understand reading on blogs. Try to keep your articles conversational and easy to read.
Writers and artists should always have one goal in mind. Provoking an emotional response from their audience. If you can get a reaction from people, chances are you can get them interested enough to keep reading, subscribe to your blog, and/or tell their friends. Whether you are shocking, funny, or suspenseful an emotional response from your readers is a must.
It doesn’t matter if you’re working on an article, a brochure or a blog post, it’s a good idea to add your personality to whatever it is you are writing. There is only one way to write words that move people: by writing them from your heart. People want to be able to relate to what they are reading, if its real and has real voice your work will gain more exposure.
Something should be said here about plagiarism. It’s the wrong thing to do. You may be tempted to copy and paste your way to creative content, but you will get caught. There are plenty of websites out there that can tell if posts are original. No one likes a copy-cat. The sure-fire fastest way to killing your reader base is to get caught stealing. Just say no to plagiarism!
To be effective at blogging, even more so than content writing, you have to have a niche. There are some personal blogs out there that are more like diaries, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Many people enjoy writing these, and quite a few people enjoy reading them, too. However, if you have a business and blog for that reason, being more professional and staying on a particular topic is vital. Few people want to go to your real estate blog and read about how your child has the flu so you’re watching TV in your pajamas all day. Most people don’t care. They’re looking for information on your business only.
To summarize, the number one most important thing is to know who you are writing to. The demographic of your readers. What kinds of people are they? Ask yourself questions about their interests and try to aim your content for them. A blogger who knows their readers is king. Good luck and happy blogging!
